PIÑATAS AND TANGERINES

The comforter I brought out of a storage closet on October 31st and put back immediately is now on our bed.  After the big week-end rains, mornings and evenings are now cool at last and the hours in between are heavenly. Piñatas are decorating the streets and for sale on several of them.  Trucks are laden with ripe, sweet tangerines from Vera Cruz and they will remind me of my
MANDARINAS DE VERA CRUZ - 20 PESOS LA BOLSA
childhood.  Tangerines were always in my Christmas stocking, along with chocolates the size of fifty-cent pieces encased in gold foil.  My favorite Christmases were then, living on a large farm in southern California.  I always woke up about five in the morning to see what magic Santa had left under the Christmas tree,  and if he had taken a bite out of the cookie I had left for him.  And then I would run several minutes on a frosty path in the dark to my cousins´ house to see what was under their tree, passing the creche-like scene of sleeping cows and goats and sheep.  Their warm breath created steamy mists in the cold morning air.  Our parents slept through these early secret moments.  Later in the morning, my grandmother would ask if I had heard Santa shout out over the roof top,  "Merry Christmas to all, and to all a goodnight," and I always replied "yes!"

STERILIZATIONS AT COAPINOLE CLINIC - December 16-19 - This colonia is reached by driving north, passing the church in the bustling municipality of Pitillal and then heading east towards the foothills of the Sierra Madress.  It´s about a 25-minute drive from centro.

Forty-two cats and dogs arrived on the first day, thirty-eight on Thursday and  forty-two on Friday.

Total number of sterilizations and donations to be reported in January, as we leave for a two-week family visit in California on Saturday, December 19th.  No blogs will be written until the first week of January.

THIS CLINIC WAS SPONSORED BY AN ANONYMOUS DONATION.  THANK YOU!

Thank you to Julie Bunker, who let PEACEAnimals use her lovely home for the 3 1/2 day clinic.

Dahl Family Foundation - $2,000 USD - earmarked for a clinic in Bucerías. (added to the 25,000 pesos donated by Lucy Muniz and Gil Gevins, plus GoFundMe program initiated by Harold Sokolove, two clinics in Bucerias have now been paid for).

Hadene and John Klassnik - $250 USD  "in memory of their darling son, Wayde Jonathan Klassnik"

MISCELLANEOUS DONATIONS:

Sandra and Art Hildebrand -  1,000 pesos for cat food - which I passed on to  Puro Gato.  Sandra and Art, from Canada, rent a place near our home.  During their stays in Vallarta, they bring fresh water to the cats I feed in the abandoned house.  The white cat splattered with grey marks was once the cat I called the "devil cat" because he could get into our garden and then would fight with our cats.  He was skinny and skanky and completely wild.  With the years, he came to trust me and would let me pet him and eventually take him to be neutered.  He´s now fat and clean and would rather be petted than pay attention to food.  He lives with three other cats, a wonderful male tabby, a sleek black male cat with a white stripe down its nose and a black ,long-haired female.  They have all been sterilized at PEACEAnimals clinics and are extremely tame and affectionate.  They live in the empty house on Aldama and Guadalupe Sanchez in Centro.  I wish for a home for all of them.

Worrisome regarding the isla Cuale - Dogs running loose on the isla.  They are at risk for being poisoned and they also prevent a danger to the cats living on the isla Cuale.  An eight-year old female Siamese-mix cat was brutally killed there this week by an aggressive dog.  The law requires that dogs be kept on leashes at all times on the island.
