SEPTEMBER STORMS

SEPTEMBER STORM OVER THE BAY OF BANDERAS       photo credit:  Joseph Kandoll
BEFORE THE CHARRO PARADE

The storms always arrive at night.  Afternoons cloud over and by early evening, clusters of nimbus clouds transform themselves into cumulonimbus clouds and dark grey veils of rain can be seen falling on the horizon. Window-rattling crashes of thunder, accompanied by bright flashes and serpentine lighting make for a thrilling night. In the early mornings, fluffy clouds are pink and peaceful over Banderas Bay. September hurricanes in the Pacific have kept Puerto Vallarta cooler and wetter than usual.  Everything is green green green.

Postscript:  After the September 16th celebrations of the charro parade on the malecón and the bell ringing ceremony, the bell decorations are still up and may stay in place until after the New Year.

PALMAR DE HARAMARA CLINIC
Colonia Palmar de Haramara is a very nice neighborhood located just southeast of the cruise ship terminal with leafy green parks, tree-lined cobbled streets, and like most neighborhoods, has lots of cats and dogs.   Candace Shaw, who generously donated her charming home for the clinic, said people were at her door with their pets at 6:30 AM on the first day and kept arriving that early for the remainder of the surgery week.  One woman traveled by bus from Bucerias with her six cats in a box.  Because the clinic was already full, Candace let the cats overnight so they would be insured a space the following morning. Another woman had taken three dogs belonging to a neighbor and had been turned away twice at the Valle Dorado clinic and at 7 AM, was too late to get a space for them.  Again, Candace let the animals do an overnight. Because people were turned away every day of the clinic, Candace offered to host a second one the week after next.  TO DONATE TO THIS NEXT CLINIC:   http://www.gofundme.com/f42k84

A young boy with braces appeared at our door on Tuesday to say that two little puppies had been dumped in front of his grandmother´s small grocery store.  I wanted to say that the only thing he could do would be to contact animal rescue groups.  Instead, I went to see them.  The female had a little pink ribbon tied around her neck and both puppies were clean, but thin and still had puppy breath.  I bundled them up and took them to Dr. Peña´s for tests, vaccines,
"ALBERTO" Y "GABY" NECESITAN HOGARES
deworming and two overnights.  Deborah Eklund in Nuevo Vallarta answered my Facebook SOS and offered to foster these two very adorable, bright-eyed, prancing puppies.  I drove them there immediately and they are now in very good hands.  "Gaby," a brunette and her brother "Alberto," black with tan and white markings, are six-weeks old, part German Shepherd, healthy and will be medium size. The puppies will be sterilized in the next few weeks. Deborah reports that they´re very smart puppies and are already paper trained. If interested, contact: eklund_54@hotmail.com

"GASTON" NECESITA HOGAR
The scared little Fox Terrier was running around our neighborhood eating garbage for two weeks before I could catch him.  He´s two years old and is being boarded at LADRA.  He´s vaccinated, neutered, healthy, energetic and irresistible.  Contact:  bbrischa@hotmail.com

The Acopio is now holding adoptions every Saturday from 11 AM-2 PM at Plaza Caracól (back end of building near McDonald´s entrance) or Macro Plaza.  Because of the pet store at Plaza Caracól that keeps dogs in small vitrines, the Acopio is no longer allowed to bring dogs to that location. Please check with the Acopio regarding their adoption schedules.    Dogs are walked twice a week by volunteers organized by Friends of Puerto Vallarta Animals.Eighty-five dogs and dozens of cats are waiting for permanent homes at the Acopio.
