SATURDAY MORNING

A large, dark bat flutters around our outdoor dining in the morning and then disappears higher up in the garden where our papayas are ripening.
PAPAYAS EN EL JARDÍN
Sparkle,  the kitten that I thought was a female until I took her to a clinic this week, joyfully flings a tiny grey dead mouse repeatedly into the air and the bougainvillea bursts magenta blossoms against the blue sky.  At 8:30, the little Saturday market in front of the wooden swinging bridge to the isla Cuale opens for business.   Later in the afternoon, pick-up trucks drive up our street selling oranges, apples, blackberries, grapes, avocados, strawberries, bananas, papayas, mangos and melons.from different parts of México.

VENDIENDO FRUTAEN LAS CALLES DE PUERTO VALLARTA

There was a small fiasco at the cultural center on the isla Cuale.  When the vet team arrived at 7:30 in the morning on Wednesday, our first day, there was an educational group already there and setting up for an 8 AM start.  Management had double booked the space we were to use, so we were fortunate in being able to move over to Colina clinic, a few blocks away.   Puro Gato posted signs at the cultural center advising of change of location and a sign also posted on the door of Colina clinic.  Heather and Rob, who live in la Peñita, Nayarit, were there on the first day to volunteer.
"LALO" RESCATADO, OPERADO Y ADOPTADO EN LA CLÍNICA DE EMILIANO ZAPATA

They brought "Lalo," with them,  a young grey and white male kitten that had been rescued in Guayabito.  Lalo was neutered and an American woman named Nancy, who had come to the clinic, adopted him immediately.

Saturday was the busiest day.  A long line was waiting when I arrived at 8:30 at Colina clinic in colonia Emiliano Zapata.
Colette Zarry, owner of Colina clinic (open every Saturday at 9 AM),  showed me the large blonde Lab mix that has been living and breeding on the streets for two years.   She had been captured a couple of days ago because her friend Joanna had been able to catch the dog´s puppy and keep her at her home next to the clinic.  The mama couldn´t stay away.  Both were spayed and are for adoption.  Contact Colina clinic via FB if interested.  Carmelita is the puppy´s name and the mama has been named Loretta.  FOSTER HOMES NEEDED ASAP!   Scrolling down is a photo of a beautiful one-year old female Terrier that Colette rescued and is fostering.  "Puka" needs a home.

EDUCATION PROGRAM:  Leslie Caratachea, director, was able to visit the Escuela (school) Emilio Zapata on Olas Altas street on February 2nd.  Her presentation included the announcement that the first three students to arrive at the clinic on Wednesday and on Saturday would receive the gift of a PEACE spay/neuter t-shirt.  Leslie reported a very enthusiastic response from the 43 students.

ADOPTION:  "Tato."   Tito Gutierrez, our terrific computer techie, admired  "Sparkle," my Siamese-mix rescue from the Isla Cuale.    I suggested he contact Puro Gato, the organization of two sisters who rescue so many cats and kittens from the island.  Tito went to their refuge and chose a small male Siamese mix.

"TATO" - RESCATADO POR PURO GATO EN LA ISLA CUALE Y ADOPTADO

Due to non-sterilization and a lack of education, there are thousands of homeless cats and dogs living on the streets in Puerto Vallarta.  There are many hundreds waiting to be adopted in foster homes,  sanctuaries and the Centro de Acopio.   If you can foster an animal, have found a cat or dog, or would like to adopt a cat or dog, Please check our website on the "resource" tab for names and contacts of refuges, vets, etc.
