BEAUTIFUL BOCA DE TOMATLÁN: "Boca," as it is called by the locals, is a 10 or 11 mile gracefully curving drive south on the highway and is the last stop connected to the southern coastline. From Boca, one drives inland for another couple of hours before reaching the coast again.
The little village, settled on both sides of the Tomatlán river and next to a calm cove, is the starting point for one of the most gorgeous walks/hikes I´ve ever been on, passing more quiet coves and deserted beaches before reaching las Ánimas. From there, one can continue on south or have lunch and take a water taxi back to either Boca or the modern pier at los muertos beach.
Boca is a charming spot to sit under an umbrella and eat fresh ceviche or shrimp tostadas before and after a swim. The prices are very reasonable at the restaurants on the beach - 15 pesos for a very fresh ceviche tostada and 40 pesos for a shrimp tostada. Boca de Tomatlán with its peaceful cove, river, palms and jungled hills would have inspired Gauguin if he had visited.  |

Colonia 5 de mayo is close to the stadium and restaurants and a few minutes away by car from centro Vallarta. Rene, the owner of la Palada Consentida, closes his popular patio restaurant for the summer months and generously offered the space to PEACEAnimals. He made sure tables and chairs were stacked in the back area so there was plenty of space for surgery and recovery tables. On Wednesday, Shannon and Soraya were able to bring in two pregnant cats just captured on the isla Cuale before the team had to turn people away on the first day.

de Acopio are only walked twice a week by volunteers organized by Friends of
Puerto Vallarta Animals.
Food is always
needed. The government contributes two weeks of food annually.
