Rollicking rain storms and almost perfectly matched numbers for air, water and humidity - all in the mid-eighties.

8 PUPPIES NEED HOMES - NECESITAN HOGARES
5-YEAR OLD MALE XOLO AND HIS SISTER FOR ADOPTION
San Francisco, known as "San Pancho" is a very pretty, quiet, cobbled beach village about 15 minutes north of the surfing town of Sayulita in the state of Nayarit.  Driving in to the village on Avenida Tercer Mundo ("Third World"), I stopped at a sidewalk stand to buy some freshly squeezed orange juice. The owner of the stand and her husband showed me their Two Xolos (Mexican Hairless dogs) that they can no longer keep.  Brother and sister, they are five years old, vaccinated, sterilized, very good looking and very sweet.  The owners also showed me their mostly German Shepherd and her eight  four-week old pretty, plump puppies in different shades of brown.  She was nursing them in the dirt in back of their home.  Rudolfo said he was going to take the entire family up into the hills and leave them there.  When I asked why he hadn´t had his dog spayed, he said he "hadn´t had the time."   At the clinic,  located in the  spacious and airy Tercer Edad ("Third Age,",i.e., "Senior Citizen") building, Paulina said she had also met Rodolfo.  He had told her that he was going to "dispose" of  all the puppies. Please call Rudolfo at 044 322 175 4826 or 044 322 132 3159 if you can foster or adopt a puppy or puppies.    The Xolos are also for adoption, but only together.

STERILIZATIONS   (PETS FOR LIFE CLINIC): San Pancho, Nay.  June 11-14

Female dogs: 27; Male dogs - 26; Female cats:  27; Male cats: 16  TOTAL:  96

Funds for this clinic were raised by locals and some of their friends in the U.S.  Pets for Life are independent contractors and are the team of three that PEACEAnimals hires for approximately 30 clinics a year.  Pets for Life finds funding for approximately 18 clinics annually.

DONATIONS TO PEACEANIMALS CLINICS:  Marion Franc - 9,000 pesos (equivalent to $691.44 USD on June 10)

Heidi Hubner - $500 CA

Miles Merritt - Gail Kempler - M/K Productions -PhotographyVideography/Editing

While vacationing in Puerto Vallarta, Miles and his wife Gail shot a great six-minute video at a  couple of clinics.  Please take a look at it on YouTube and share it.  We hope this will be very helpful in securing more donations for our free mobile spay/neuter clinics and also encourage more people to sterilize their pets.

MISCELLANEOUS DONATIONS:  Patricia Lupton - 500 pesos for baby possum supplies.  Patricia took "Chicle," Marianna´s first rescue, home with her to foster.  At four months of age, Chicle eats on his own, so Patricia won´t have to give him milk via a syringe every five hours.

RESCUED:  Seven more baby tlcauches (possums).  Their mother was killed by children.  Education is critical, and not just for children.  A rescued single orphaned baby possum was added to this box.   A friend of mine recently killed an adult possum in his garden, convinced it was a pest.
SEVEN NEWLY  RESCUED TWO-MONTH OLD  TLACUATES BEING FOSTERED BY MARIANNA BERDEJO

Possums are the only marsupials living in the Americas and are among the shortest-lived mammals for their size.  In lab tests, the memory of possums surpasses that of cats, chicks, dogs, goats, pigs turtles and rats.  They remember very well where to go for food, but don´t destroy crops or gardens.  They scavenge for food in composts, garbage and up trees, using their long prehensile tails. At birth, the tiny babies  are deaf and blind, with no real back legs.  They do sort of a swimmers crawl to move from the mother´s pouch (remember the kangaroo) to her teats.

POSSUM PLAN Marianna Barejo, who lives in Sayulita,  will build a branch-lined kennel to keep baby possums safe from her cats.  As tiny babies, they will be hand fed.  When they begin to mature showing some yellowish hair, they will be fed from a distance.  Four weeks after that,  the possums will be released into the wild, where they will quickly adapt.  Anticipated life span in the wild is less than two years.  If you can help, Marianna needs donations of fruit, vegetables, cat kibble, etc.  Please contact her if you can help:  lacasadefido@gmail.com
"CHICLE," 4 MONTHS OLD, WITH THE 2- MONTH OLD POSSUMS DRINKING MILK.  THE ONE IN THE UPPER LEFT CORNER WAS A SOLO RESCUE AND HAD NOT YET INTEGRATED WITH THE GROUP.

Postscript:  Marianna is an excellent dog/bird/monkey trainer.

Paulina rescued a Belgian Shepherd in colonia Ramblases.  He was neutered at the San Pancho clinic and is being fostered by Paulina.  Please contact her if interested. Photo at bottom of page.

NEED HOMES:  Two eight-week old puppies from the empty lots in colonia Fluvial.  With the help of friends, Connie Córdova has been giving water and food to the many homeless dogs there, several of which have been maimed or killed by cars as they attempted to cross the street in search of food.  Two of the dogs that she has been unable to catch have given birth to litters.  Connie was able to pick up three of the puppies.

"Georgina" is the dog several years ago at the Acopio.  She was about two years old and with her six puppies in a small, dark cell at the Acopio.   An employee confirmed she would be put to death once her puppies were weaned. (The Acopio is a no-kill pound.under the current administration).
"GEORGINA" AND HER BABIES AT THE CENTRO DE ACOPIO

"GEORGINA" AND HER FAMILY VISITING
I couldn´t walk away from this face.  Georgina, skinny and weak, had to be lifted up into my car with all of her babies.  Later that day, my husband asked if I had rescued a dog lately.  "Not a dog.  Go look in the bodega."  Homes were found for all the babies and Susan Lowther and her husband adopted Georgina and brought her to Vancouver Island. A few months ago, the Lowthers and their two Mexican rescues returned to Mexico for an extended stay  and came by for a visit.  Georgina, whose muzzle has turned white,  seemed to remember me.  She walked purposefully up the red brick steps towards the bodega area where she had lived for a month with her puppies five years ago.

Asunto: Cachorros De Fluvial
