EL TUITO - This very typical, quiet Mexican town with church and central plaza is located a one-hour drive southeast of Puerto Vallarta. PEACEAnmals makes annual visits to el Tuito, where the clinic has always been organized by Kai Doyle, former teacher from San Francisco. Kai has not only offered her casita for the clinic location, but provided bedrooms for two members of the vet team.
Bonnie Jauregui provided the other two bedrooms at her beautiful Rancho Primavera.

A VISIT TO TENOTCHITLÁN/MEXICO CITY
It has a very long last name -"The Metropolitan Cathedral of the Assumption of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven."
Built at the zócalo, the historical center, over what was the sacred area of the Aztecs, the cathedral in Mexico City was built in stages between 1573 and 1813. Designed in the classical style with baroque decorative details, it is the largest and oldest cathedral in the Americas. Across the street are the ruins of Templo Mayor of Tenochitlán, the Aztec capitol.
The temple was found quite by accident in 1978, when electric company diggers struck a pre-hispanic monolith. Demolitions of surrounding buildings followed, including some from the 19th century with colonial influences. Although carvings and artifacts were discovered, nothing of the size nor beauty of the Templo Mayor remains.
Very near the Zócalo is the beautiful "Secretaria de Educación Pública" (SEP) building. A former monastery, it was built in the classic style with graceful arches and courtyards where purple flowering jacaranda trees bloom.
It was here in 1923 where Diego Rivera began his first major mural project, a series of panels depicting the illustrious and ordinary people of different regions of Mexico.
After completing the panels on the ground floor, Rivera began work on the third floor, dedicating his art to revolution and communism. The second floor is comprised of panels of the coats- of-arms of the states of the Mexican republic painted by his students. Only opened to the public three months ago, admission is free. With the exception of the building´s employees, we were the only people in the building. Allow at least two hours to see this magnificent collection of the 140 panels of Diego Rivera´s "mural."
