SEEN IN CENTRO

SEEN IN CENTRO:  Centro, a neighborhood a few blocks above the malecón (paved "boardwalk"), is filled with art galleries, shops and restaurants.  It is also seeing the beginnings of artfully painted facades of businesses and homes.  In anticipation of street repairs, stones are lined up in piles next to sidewalks where work will soon begin.  Mariachis can be seen on corners practicing on their instruments and in front of the church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, photographs of colorful and well-attended weddings and quinceañeras are regularly being taken.

SCENE IN LA ZONA ROMANTICA:  On the other side of town is the Zona Romantica, where almost a dozen new condos are going up.  Streets are a mess, traffic difficult, and there are no apparently steps being taken to improve the infrastructure.  With studios a couple of blocks away from the beach selling for as low as $133,000 USD,  buyers are flocking here.  The tall buildings will hide the sun in the romantic zone part of the day and will block ocean breezes for people who live in colonia Emiliano Zapata,  behind the romantic zone.   Puerto Vallarta is booming, and there are many who don´t think this is necessarily a good thing.

UNA DE LAS CALLES EN LA ZONA ROMANTICA

SEEN IN BOCA DE TOMATLÁN:  Sunday was a perfect, beautiful blue day with temperatures in the mid-eighties.  We shared the bay for three hours with scores of white terns that whirled through the air like confetti, diving for fish below.  There were also close encounters with several whales, including a few moments of an unpleasant odor.  One of the whales was in the process of an "evacuation."  Red tide prevented us from swimming in our favorite coves.     Afterwards, I visited the studio of well-known artist, Pipo Brockmann, to pick up a painting he had chosen to donate to the PEACEAnimals online auction.  The outdoor space was crammed with paintings and sculptures, and in the background of the collection of clay dogs, a glorious amapas tree in full pink bloom.

PALMA REAL:  A twenty-five minute drive northeast from centro, passing through Pitillal.  The clinic took place in one of the most attractive locations we´ve ever visited - an open-air event rental building adorned with colorful piñatas and an adjoining green lawn  lined with palms and pink, lavender and fuschia bougainvillea .
CLÍNICA EN PALMA REAL

On Friday, a woman who had rescued and adopted a very pregnant street dog weeks ago,  brought the dog in with her eight two-month old puppies. The pregnancy had been an extremely advanced one when the woman found the dog.  Also at the clinic -  "Chili," a small, homeless white female dog with a mostly brown face.  She had been staying outside the Volcanes Education Project and as she was in heat, receiving very close attention from male dogs.   One of the teachers picked up the sweet,  little dog that has just been adopted by the school.  Chili will live there and enjoy the company of four-hundred students.

As original location was a last-minute cancellation, no time to reschedule a school.  No program in Compostela on Tuesday, March 13th due to the long drive there of 2 1/2 hours.

The mission of PEACEAnimals is to end the future suffering of cats and dogs.  The most efficient way to do this is via a massive, free spay/neuter clinic.  In 2017, PEACEAnimals sterilized 5,357 cats and dogs.
