ÁRBOL DE AMAPAS EN VALLARTA |
As I prepared to leave Vallarta to visit my children and grandchildren in San Francisco and my mother in Hawaii, I took a last look at the glorious yellow blossoms on the primavera trees, hoping they would still be here when I returned. It is a warmer spring that usual, and the orchid, amapas and primavera trees are all in beautiful full bloom.

Female dogs: 20; Male dogs: 50; Female cats: 25; Male cats: 16 TOTAL: 111
DONATIONS at clinic: 1,230 pesos
This clinic was made possible by a generous grant from the Richard R. Reed Foundation.
COLONIA VILLA DE GUADALUPE - The clinic took place in a vacant small brick house in this dusty and humble neighborhood 30 minutes northeast of central Vallarta. Although this was a very busy clinic, no one was turned away. We ran out of crates to put dogs in, so the last ones to arrive were anesthetized right away, and waited on leashes with their owners.

HOGAR PARA LA CLÍNICA EN VILLA DE GUADALUPE |
DONATIONS at clinic in Villa de Guadalupe: 1,480 pesos
This clinic was made possible in part by a generous grant of $10,000 USD from the Richard R Reed Foundation. At a cost of $1,800 USD per surgery week, $9,000 USD pays for 5 clinics. With a balance of $1,000 USD, the RRR Foundation has underwritten 5/9 of the costs of the clinic in Villa de Guadalupe. This amount represents the sterilization of 87 cats and dogs.
Total dogs and cats sterilized as a result of the Richard R. Reed Foundation grant: 661!!!
This makes a very large impact on the unwanted pet population in the area of the Bay of Banderas. México is apparently number one in the world for overpopulation of cats and dogs.
All
pet registration forms with signatures of owners or rescuers are submitted by
Dr. Poli to the local department of health, with copies to
PEACEAnimals.

EDUCATION PROGRAM: Leslie Caratachea presented to approximately420 students at the Constitución school in Valle Dorado. She reported that two of the students arrived on Thursday morning with their dogs and stayed the entire day volunteering at the clinic.
Due to
non-sterilization and a lack of education, there are thousands of homeless cats
and dogs living on the streets in Puerto Vallarta. There are many hundreds waiting to be adopted
in foster homes, sanctuaries and the
Centro de Acopio. If you can foster an
animal, have found a cat or dog, or would like to adopt a cat or dog, Please
check our website on the "resource" tab for names and contacts of
refuges, vets, etc.
