PET PICNIC!

It seems strange not to be visiting PEACEAnimals clinics, and I miss them.   Our work agreement with the vet team,  Pets for Life,  is that they be available to us a minimum of thirty surgery weeks a year.  The work agreement can be seen on our website.   PEACEAnimals works with the team approximately forty weeks a year.  Pets for Life secures approximately nine surgery weeks annually outside of Puerto Vallarta, which means not having to raise approximately $16,000 USD annually for PEACEAnimals clinics.  The excellent team,  consisting of Dr. Poli, Dr. Anthony and Leslie Carratachea (vet tech and education director) are currently in Zipolite, Oaxaca, which looks very beautiful.  Their clinic is sponsored by the SnipSisters.

ZIPOLITE, OAXACA. NUESTRO EQUIPE, PETS FOR LIFE, TIENE SU CLÍNICA ALLÁ ESTA SEMANA.  LA CLÍNICA DE 2 SEMANAS ESTÁ PAGADA POR LAS "SNIPSISTERS."

CAT PICNIC:  At dusk on Thursday, I took our three dogs to the isla Cuale for a walk and a dip in the river, which flows down from the Sierra Madres and into the Bay of Banderas.  Crossing the swinging wooden bridge, a pack of cats strode purposefully towards me.  The dogs regarded them quizzically.    Behind me was

ALMENDRA DE PURO GATO DANDO PESCADO A UNOS DE LOS GATS DE LA ISLA CUALE
Almendra and/or her sister, Soraya, go to the island daily to feed fish to the abandoned cats and kittens.   They also trap cats, take them to PEACEAnimals and Colina free clinics for sterilization and either find homes for them or release them back to the island. Alemendra was accompanied by a videographer who is making a short documentary on the cats of the isla Cuale. There are many beautiful and tame ones that would make great companions.
TANTOS HERMOSOS GATOS MANCITOS Y OPERADOS EN LA ISLA QUE SERÍAN BUENOS COMPAÑEROS

The tiny island hosts a cultural center at the east end and a small archaeological museum at the west end,  where the river empties into the bay.  In between are restaurants, shops, stalls and a couple of small, abandoned buildings.  There is an assortment of rumors regarding the island´s future, which include potential plans for a green iguana sanctuary,
IGUANAS DE LA ISLA CUALE

a botanical garden, and even talk of a casino.  I believe Puerto Vallarta has three casinos at present, all of which are the electronic games variety.  Regarding the abandoned cats living on the island -  city officials are discussing the need to move most of them to another location.  Where?  PLEASE CONSIDER ADOPTING A CAT FROM THE ISLAND.  FAVOR DE CONSIDERAR ADOPTANDO UN GATO DE LA ISLA CUALE.

NOTE:  Dr. Manuel Peña is aware of the urgency to sterilize and find homes for cats from the isla Cuale.  Depending on his work schedule, he will donate 5 feline spay or neuter surgeries per week to Puro Gato.  Please ask your vets if they will donate surgeries to the abandoned cats on the isla Cuale.

Due to non-sterilization and a lack of education, there are thousands of cats and dogs living on the streets in Puerto Vallarta.  There are many hundreds waiting to be adopted in foster homes,  sanctuaries and in the Centro de Acopio.   If you can foster an animal, have found a cat or dog, or would like to adopt a cat or dog, please check our website on the "resource" tab for names and contacts of refuges, vets, etc.
