To
the disappointment of tourists, it rained every day from Christmas until New
Year´s. Couples and families, many of
them from Guadalajara, sat huddled together on beaches under brightly striped towels. Restaurants were busy with customers who had
nowhere else to go during the cool, wet days and nights. It
felt like winter.

When at last the sun came out, friends and I drove up along the rio cuale to at my favorite place for lunch, Paraiso Moro, and then up to the Canopy Zip Line, where the view is all the way to the bay and the foothills beyond.

before anchoring at the northernmost tip of the 40 mile horseshoe-shaped bay and swimming to a deserted white, sandy beach. Later in the day, the wind came up and we were able to sail all the way back to Vallarta. We stopped to watch a Humpback whale with her week or two-week old calf performing
joyful leaps above the surface. 
With the great whoooosh of air being exhaled by this giant, peaceful creature, I felt the connection of all living things sharing oxygen on this beautiful planet. And as for whales, Japan, Norway and Iceland need to stop the slaughter. Regarding fish, the Japanese pay $100 per shark fin, so they can have their soup. They continue to plunder the oceans. It is estimated that in twenty more years, there will be no more fish in the oceans.

sex, age an d description of cat or dog, which vaccines , if any, date of last
litter, health status, vital
signs pre-and post-surgery and if a pregnancy has been terminated, and if yes,
how many fetuses were aborted.
Our
director, Paulina Stettner, says she has never worked with better vets in the
U.S. or Canada. This is very high praise
for Dr. Poli and Dr. Anthony.

“Capitan,” the abandoned five-year old Pit Bull living on the streets in Ixtapa. Anhelo Munguia had seen the dog that her friend Carolina Cárdenas had been feeding and posted a photo of Capitan on FB. I included the photo in my blog. PEACEAnimals volunteers, Vicki and Frank Ohly saw the photo and offered to foster him. After many phone calls and emails, Vicki and Frank picked up Capitan in Ixtapa and took him to a vet the following day.

Terrorized, the kitten fled. Buster chased, and for the first time, caught up with a kitten and playfully pawed at it. I grabbed the leash, took all three dogs back to my parked car and returned to the island. I hadn´t expected to find the kitten, but it was there, wet and muddy with its back still arched. Still spitting and hissing, the kitten wouldn´t let me pick it up. I took off my rain parka, threw it over the bedraggled kitten and drove directly to Shannon Beston´s office.

A la disilusión de los turistas, llovió todos los días de Navidad hasta el Año Nuevo. Las parejas y las familias, muchos de ellos de Guadalajara, estaban apiñados en las playas bajo de toallas de rayas brillantes. Los restaurantes estaban ocupados con los clientes que no tenían otro lugar a donde ir durante los diás y noches frsecos. Me sentía como en invierno.
Cuando por fin salió el sol, amigos y yo fuimos en coche a lo largo del rio cuale a mi lugar favorito para almuerzo, Paraiso Moro y luego hasta el Zip Line Canopy, donde la vista es todo el camino a la bahía y las colinas más allá. En otro día brillante, pasamos en un barco de vela, pasando condominios y palmeras de coco antes de fondear en la punta más septentrional de la bahía en forma de herradura de 40 millas para nadar a una playa desierta de arena blanca. Regresando a Vallarta horas después, nos detuvimos a ver una ballena por encima de la superficie con su bebé de una semana o dos semanas de edad que estaba haciendo saltos de alegría.
Con la gran whoooosh de aire que exhaló este gigante, mamífero pacífico, sentía la conexión de todos los seres vivos que comparten el oxígeno de este hermoso planeta. Y en cuanto a las ballenas, el Japón, Noruega e Islandia necesitan detener la masacre. En cuanto a los peces, los japoneses pagan $ 100 EE.UU. por la aleta de tiburón, para que puedan tener su sopa. Continúan saquear los océanos de peces. Se estima que en veinte años más, no habrán más peces en los océanos.
