The first pet owners had arrived at 5 AM, and included a charming, middle-age man with deep furrows in his tanned face and beautiful white teeth. He had brought a black and white street dog with a long, wavy tail that he had named "Princesa," and said a group of neighbors was feeding her. He was given two small bags of dog food and a bright pink PEACEAnimals collar/leash. "Princesa," noble callejera que los vecinos están ayudando - clínica en Mezcales
The friendly man said he owned a male dog, but as it wasn´t running loose, didn´t want to neuter him .because it would be "like cutting off its leg or ear." Neutering, especially when a dog is less than a year old, helps prevent canine prostate problems. For a dog on the street, it prevents TVT (transmissible venereal tumor), and of course pregnancies.Clínica en Mezcales - preparando. Preparing for work.
There were plenty of dogs running loose on the streets in Mezcales. A small, dirty white male Terrier mix that would be very pretty after a bath and grooming, was at the plaza sniffing about for food. Opened up one of the small bags of kibble that we give away at all clinics to those who need, and gave it to him. Neighbors said the little dog is homeless. He would be easy to find if someone would like to rescue him.

CATS in la Cruz, Nayarit - Afraid feral cats will be poisoned at the local marina, PEACEAnimals sometime-volunteers, Charity Palmatier and Elinore Craig, are trapping them. To date, 9 out of 22 have been relocated to a pineapple field in Sayulita overrun with rats. Owner very happy. Charity and Elinore also contributing cat and dog food to the thriving food bank in la Cruz. Some owners abandoning pets because they can´t afford to feed them.
YELLOW POLICE TAPE - Removed on Mexico´s Independence Day, September 16th. This is a big holiday, but due to C-19, No charro parade. No city celebration. And a rare mid-day rain. For the
first time in months, pedestrians were allowed on the seawall side of the malecón. Police tape still encircles the small amphitheatre at los arcos and the plaza across the street. It had been a bad idea to close off the bay promenade, where there is so much space, fresh air and beauty.
Finalmente, el 16 de septiembre, después de meses se quitaron la cinta amarilla en el malecón
todavía la cinta amarilla está alrededor de la plaza y los arcosMASSAGE, etc,: Spas/massage businesses meeting all government requirements now open. My favorite is Healing Hands at Pipila # 240 in centro. Nothing fancy. Small, simple and clean with excellent massage work. 350 pesos for 1 hour. Open 11-6 - 322 105 2726
OPENING: The very popular (and with good reason) BONITO KITCHEN - in colonia Emiliano Zapata - next to the Cuale bridge - in November.
CULTURAL CENTER on the Isla Cuale: Offering free classes through December - sculpture, drawing, painting, guitar, etc. We signed up for beginning guitar. centro de cultura - isla cuale - puerto vallarta - clases gratuitas hasta enero
CASA OAXACA - Although open since January, I only discovered it walking from the isla Cuale to Winner´s, a block and-a-half away, to buy a guitar. If one can´t go to Oaxaca, this is as good as it gets here for textiles. The store is spacious and beautiful with wonderful bedspreads, pillow cases, runners, pottery, rugs and attractive furniture.

Boca is bustling early Saturday morning. The aroma of freshly made corn tortillas drifts through the air as we approach the cement pier. Across from it is a tamale vendor and a newly painted orange restaurant//bar, "la Casita."
On the pier, mask-less people wait for pangas to take them south to another village, many of them restaurant workers carrying supplies, including the corn tortillas.
We board "Aleydis," captain Dani´s panga, and motor out of the cove into the Bay of Banderas. Skies are overcast and a strong wind is blowing, sending warm splashes of salt water onto our faces. As we approach Yelapa, dolphins appear and quickly disappear. We stop at the pier to collect two friends of Karla de la Pena´s (Boca Divers), one of whom had moved here the day before from Berlin. On the grainy, sandy beach, local women still carry round plastic trays of homemade pies on their heads - coconut, cheese, chocolate and pecan - 35 pesos a slice. Karla plus Dani make five of us, leaving space for distancing. Traveling along the breathtakingly beautiful, greenest of green coasts for an hour, we pass the cloud factory, where all the puffiest white clouds come from. cloud factory/fábrica de nubes
Pizota
cascada escondida - hidden waterfall
We continue south, even further than Pizota, a tiny village reachable by car during dry season. A strong breeze carries the fragrance of recently rained on earth and vegetation to the boat. Motoring past a small sandy beach with oversize boulders and swaying palms, a surprise of the whitest tumble of a tall, slender waterfall cascading down terraces of grey granite. We beach the panga, climb barefoot up the cool rocky stream and douse ourselves under the falls. foto: Karla de la Peña
