For more cooling off, my husband and I drove our three young grandchildren to Santa María del Oro, a small town in the state of Nayarit, 4.5 hours northeast of Puerto Vallarta.

Just outside the pueblo, we stood on the cliff and gazed down at the blue-green lagoon resting inside an ancient volcano. Nearby, huicholes were selling their very pretty handwoven bags and beaded jewelry.

We spent two perfect, beautiful days swimming, kayaking and swing-jumping into the warm, very clear lagoon. which may be connected to a lake (also formed in an ancient volcano) in Mascota, Jalisco, 58 miles away. We will be holding a clinic there in a couple of weeks. Nicest place to stay at the lagoon of Santa María del Oro - Santa María Resort.

PEACEAnimals has visited this small Mexican town several times, always using the large, outdoor community headquarters adjacent to the plaza and church. San Vicente is located an hour northeast from centro Vallarta and far from ocean breezes. Thank you to Linda Stewart for organizing this clinic, securing lunch donations and sending photos. There is always a great response in this town re volunteers and pets brought in. Unfortunately I was unable to attend this past week.

All pet registration forms with signatures of owners or rescuers are submitted by Dr. Poli to the local department of health, with copies to PEACEAnimals.
