VALLARTA IN BLOOM!

EL MALECÓN - LLENO DE GENTE
I have never seen as many people and tour buses in Puerto Vallarta as I have this July.  Traffic can be dense and the beaches and restaurants are full.  It will stay like this until August 15th, when schools are back in session.  Locals say that the big numbers of nationals in Vallarta are due in part to the teachers union strikes in Oaxaca, which have closed streets there and disrupted traffic between Mexico City and Oaxaca,  and the sad fact that Acapulco is no longer a desirable tourist destination.

TOUR BUSES JUST OUTSIDE SAYULITA - CAMIÓNES TURÍSTICOS - SAYULITA, NAYARIT
ADOPTED!:  Last week at the clinic in Villa de Guadalupe, Frank Ohly, who has volunteered at our clinics twice a week for the past three years, mentioned that he and his wife Vicki would like to adopt a Boxer rescue.  They have owned many Boxers, the last of which died of old age six weeks ago.  As I began posting the blog on over 30 FaceBook pages a few days later, I saw a photo of a "Leila," a rescued white female Boxer on the Sayulitanimals page.  On a cloudy, grey Tuesday,
Vicki, Frank and I drove to Sayulita to meet Sara Briner (founder and director of SayulitAnimals) and Shelly Yoged (co-director) at their headquarters on the outskirts of town.  The beautiful and sweet Boxer was an immediate adoption and renamed "Greta."

Two hours before we had arrived, a cardboard box with five loudly crying tiny black kittens had been left at the front door of SayulitAnimals.  A mama cat missing her kittens was found for the orphans,  who will be for adoption in eight weeks.

RESTAURANTES MUY CERCA DE SAYULITANIMALS - CINCO MINUTOS FUERA DEL CENTRO DE SAYULITA
As there was a long line of tour buses parked across the street from SayulitAnimals and the dirt roads were muddy from recent rains, we decided not to go into town.  Instead, we enjoyed a delicious and very inexpensive lunch at a simple restaurant on the side of the road.

VALLARTA ADVENTURES ADOPTION PROGRAM:  On Friday at 7 pm in front of la Rosita Hotel, Colette Zarry, owner of Colina clinic and Langostinos restaurant, Pati Meneses, coordinator of environmental affairs for Vallarta Adventures, two co-workers, Alejandra Alfaro and Verónica Diaz - plus two part-time summer employees of LADRA, the dog boarding and refuge -Ana Gabriela Tello Hernández, a very pretty young vet from Mexico City and Efe Ozcelik, a nice looking young man from Turkey.
SEIS PERROS EN ADOPCIÓN PASEANDO VIERNES  A LAS 7 DE LA NOCHE PARA DOS HORAS EN EL MALECÓN.  VOLUNTARIOS DE VALLARTA ADVENTURES EN AZUL Y VOLUNTARIOS DE LADRA EN NEGRO.
Six great dogs (two from LADRA and four from Colette) went with the group for a two-hour stroll on the very busy malécon.  Interested adopters were given slips of paper with Colette´s and LADRA´s contacts and asked to email or call the next day to arrange at-home interviews.

Vallarta Adventures not only provided three employees, but also neon green "Adopt Me" vests for the dogs without "Vallarta Adventures" on them.  This promenade was simply about Ricardo Farkas, owner of Vallarta Adventures, wanting to help rescued dogs find homes.

ANOTHER ADOPTION:  Simone Redburn emailed to say she would like to find a young dog to take back to Vancouver this week.  After giving her some resources, she decided on "Osita," a young black female Lab mix that Colette Zarry had rescued.

SIMONE AND ROSS REDBURN Y SUS NIÑOS ADOPTARON "OSITA," QUIÉN FUE RESCATADA POR COLETTE ZARRY, DUEÑA DE LA CLÍNICA DE COLINA.  TODOS VOLARON A VANCOUVER ESTA SEMANA.
COLONIAS VILLAS DEL PUERTO:  Located in back of Sam´s and Walmart, this was the second visit for PEACAnimals to the grey colonia that is filled with tall, drab apartment buildings and very few trees.  The clinic took place in an empty small, white cement house with a "for rent" sign on it.
