NEW IN THE NEW YEAR!

DESTILADERAS

TOMATLÁN- CABO CORRIENTES

Originally confirmed for December 18-21 in the Salon de Multiples de la Comunidad (community center), the location became unavailable for Friday and Saturday.  Tomatlán, described as "not a pretty place" by the vet team, is approximately a 2 1/2 hour drive from Vallarta and a 40-minute drive from Mayto, a village on the longest undeveloped coastline in Mexico.  This was the 6th visit to Tomatlán for PEACEAnimals. Funds for the extra costs of driving time (two hours one-way) and gasoline were raised by a group of local animal advocates.  As I was unable to attend, Dr. Poli sent all clinic photos.

CATS AT THE FISH MARKET.  At the north end of the malecón is a good fish market where people have been abandoning kittens and cats for years.  One early morning in November I met Cindy and Morris Kline, permanent residents who have been feeding the
cats there every morning for a year.
CAPTURANDO GATOS EN EL MERCADO DE PESCADOS
The following morning I returned with a cat kennel and the couple easily captured four female cats and then followed me with their own kennel to the PEACEAnimals clinic in the nearby colonia of Infonavit.  Cindy and Morris went back the next morning with more cats.  Remaining to be spayed and neutered - thirteen - plus a mama cat with four beautiful Siamese-ish kittens.  They have yet to come down from the tile roof.  All cats at the market are available for adoption.

NOT NEW:

Playa Destiladeras - A very long stretch of a white powdery beach
about an hour´s drive north of centro Vallarta.

Although I have passed this beach many times going to Sayulita, Litibu and Punta de Mita, I had never stopped. There´s a parking lot for 100 pesos and then umbrellas, chaise longs and chairs to rent for the day.  A very good restaurant brings food to your table on the sand and there are a couple of very fresh fruit stands.  Everything is delicious and very reasonably priced.  Gorgeous spot and great for swimming and body surfing.
