At 7 o´clock in the morning on April 15, a hail storm colored streets white in San Francisco. On April 17, a lusty rooster crowed. A warm breeze blew. I was back in Mexico and two whales had been seen in Banderas Bay this past week. They may have been the last until November.

Next Saturday is the last week-end for the popular produce and artisan mercado at Lazaro Cardenás park until November. The very large crowds in the market and in town are gone. Snowbirds fly north in April and May, returning in November and December. Weather remains heavenly - 82 degrees with 70% humidity.

SAN JUAN DE ABAJO, NAYARIT: - APRIL 18-21
FRUTA EN VENTA EN LA CARRETERA A SAN JUAN DE ABAJO |
Once making the turn east at Mezcales, this is a rural, peaceful drive an hour from centro Vallarta. I passed small fields of corn and larger, parched fields with cows holding their heads close to the ground searching for grass. A truck in front of me carrying crowded cattle turned off the main road and I hoped to not give in to an In n´Out Burger in California. Passing taco stands with bony, black dogs lingering nearby, I stopped to buy green grapes, red grapes, mangos and strawberries that had made the long journey from Michoacan and Aguascalientes. Across the street in front of a vet´s clinic, four white baby bunnies and a chicken and rooster were in cages and for sale - as pets and providers of eggs.
