IN THE RIVER!

EJIDO DE EL JORULLO- RÍO CUALE

Current water temperature in the Bay of Banderas is approximately 85 degrees, which doesn´t offer much cooling off from the oppressive heat - high 80´s to low 90´s- and high humidity this past week.
I drive beside the river, going under the brick arches that enter into the Ejido land of el Jurullo,  passing signs advising to care for the river and the environment.
I park my car where the cement bridge is and where locals splash underneath.
ABAJO DEL PUENTE ALMANECER EL EL JURULLO
and walk with our three dogs along the wide dirt trail that I´ve ridden so many times.
After crossing the river, it will lead to the swimming hole the rancheros take their clients to on horseback.  The path is completely shaded by large, leafy trees and is completely empty of riders and people.
MÉXICO LINDO Y QUERIDO

EL JORULLO A UN LADO DEL RÍO CUALE
There are two untethered horses munching on grass next to the river,  and a few dogs belonging to the scattered small homes bark at us as we pass by.  The río Cuale is shallow where I am now, but it runs fast and cool.  I sit in the rock and boulder-filled river with the jungled  foothills of the Sierra Madres tumbling down to it on both sides. The only sounds are of the rushing of the river and the joyful screeching of small green parrots as they fly high above me.  At this blissful moment, where I am is exactly where I want to be.

LAS JUNTAS  is a 30-minute drive north on the highway, heading east the first stoplight after passing Home Depot.
LA IGLESIA FRENTE DE LA PLAZA EN LAS JUNTAS
One follows Revolución for several blocks to the main square, which faces the church on one side and the delegación offices on another. There were people waiting with their pets near the bandstand at the plaza  when I arrived shortly before 9 o´clock on Saturday morning.

A woman with her small daughter brought in a mostly black female  Pit Bull that she said might bite someone if the dog felt nervous.  Instead of waiting for all the cats to be operated on, this dog was tranquilized right away and was the first animal sterilized.

There are more than two dozen Pit Bulls waiting at the Centro de Acopio for adoption.  Some have been there for two years.  They need homes.   This is a no-kill pound except for cases when the animal is dangerous or too sick to save.  Please visit the pound (Acopio) if you are considering adopting a cat or a dog.

DUEÑA CON SU HIJA Y PIT BULL EN LAS JUNTAS
After registering his two-year old English Sheepdog and her six-month old daughter and leaving them at the clinic, the tall, tan man in the orange t-shirt returned to the clinic.
LAS JUNTAS
I asked him if he had a question regarding the surgeries.  He said he just wanted to know if he needed a receipt so he would be sure to get his dogs back.  No receipts are given, but registration forms have owner´s name, signature, address and telephone number on them.  As the young boy who brought in his black cat wasn´t old enough to sign his permission, his father returned to sign for him.
NIÑO CON SU GATO - SU PAPÁ FIRMÓ EL PERMISO PARA ESTERILIZAR AL GATO

Regarding black cats - Several cat refuges are not giving out any black cats in adoption this month.  Unfortunately there are uneducated and superstitious people who choose this month of Día de los Muertos to sacrifice black cats.

TRAILER DE PEACEANIMALS FRENTE DE LA DELEGACIÓN EN LAS JUNTAS
Almost all the people who bring their pets to our clinics are Mexicans, but on Saturday,  an American (non-national) couple living in Bucerias brought four dogs they had rescued there.  Las Juntas is about 25 minutes southeast of Bucerias.  For those not familiar with the area of the Bay of Banderas,  Bucerias is the beach community half-way between Vallarta and Sayulita, the popular surfing and tourist beach town in Nayarit.
