RANCHO PRIMAVERA IN EL TUITO

El Tuito means "Little Valley" or "Place of  Beauty."  It had been a couple of months since I had last visited this beautiful spot, and so I returned for an overnight to Rancho Primeravera.  At the front gate was "Bella," the lovely and formerly emaciated Weimaraner that Paulina and I had found on a dusty road in a poor neighborhood.   Bonnie Jauregui, one of the owners of Rancho Primavera, had seen her photo in this blog, and adopted her.  The ranch is a birder´s delight and a heavenly place for anyone who wants to be surrounded by animals and by beauty.  The ranch has a lap pool,  streams, ponds, a small lake with a rowboat and a paddle board and dozens of walking and riding trails.   There are hundreds of fruit trees - mango, lime, lemon, orange, guava and avocado, plus cedars, pines, oaks, walnut, oaks, etc. 

  Six affectionate,  large rescue dogs and twenty horses roam the two-hundred acre ranch.

STELLA

When we went riding, Bella loped along behind us for an hour-and-a-half on the wet trails.  Recent births on the ranch include a three-week old brown filly with a white star on her forehead and nine little bunnies in a variety of colors. 

STELLA AND THE MACAW WHO LOVED HER

The small green parrot flew over and landed on my shoulder for a visit and the gorgeous macaw became enamored with my six-year old granddaughter.  Every time we went from the ranch house to the rental house on the small lake,  he flew over our heads, dazzling us with his display of rainbow colors.

"BELLA" IN HEAVEN AT RANCHO PRIMAVERA

COLONIA PRIMERO DE MAYO ON A MISTY MORNING

CLINIC LOCATION IN PRIMERO DE MAYO

Close to the foothills of the Sierra Madres, COLONIA PRIMERO DE MAYO is a mixed neighborhood a few minutes east of central Vallarta, with close-up views of the Sierra Madre foothills.  The clinic took place in an empty house next door to "Corazon de Niña,"  a shelter founded by Melissa Leigh Canez for approximately two dozen abused girls, ranging from the ages of four to twenty-three.

On Wednesday, the clinic´s first day, fifteen people were already queued up when the vet team arrived at 8:15 AM.  Paulina and the vets are always excited to see people waiting with their pets and have been doing high numbers.  Because work is so intense and fatigue does set in, the team would like to limit animals accepted to thirty during the week and fifteen on Saturdays.

RESCUED AND NEED HOMES:

ONE-YEAR OLD FEMALE BELGIAN SHEPHERD AT PRIMERO DE MAYO CLINIC.  NEEDS LOVING HOME.

After months of trying to persuade the owner of a beautiful, but poorly cared for Belgian Shepherd to give her up, the owner agreed to let Paulina take her.  The dog is extremely loving and was spayed at the Primero de Mayo clinic.  She needs a good home.  So does "Rommel," the other Belgian Shepherd that Paulina rescued.  Rommel was formerly named "Romeo" by his owner, who had bought a female and left them inside a property to breed. The man forgot to come by to feed and water them, so the female starved to death. A passerby saw this and freed Rommel, who lived on the street until a woman adopted him. With the beginnings of mange becoming evident,  the woman thought he was better off in the streets again.  Both dogs are from colonia Ramblases, which is immediately east of Primero de Mayo, and are being fostered by Paulina.  Please contact her if interested:  infopeaceanimals@gmail.com

"ROMMEL (IN FOREGROUND) NEEDS A GOOD HOME

"Santa," named after cartoon Simpsons´ dog.  Barbara Drucker and her husband Louis Draper have six rescue dogs, including one with special needs, and feed two street dogs daily.  A few weeks ago another dog with a terrible limp joined them.  Barbara and Louis took her to their vet,

who diagnosed the dog as having a broken hip, the result of having been hit by a car.  Surgery was complicated but successful.  Barbara named her "Santa," after the Simpsons´ dog.  After having spent three weeks recovering at the vet´s clinic, Santa needs a foster and/or permanent home as soon as possible.  

SWEET "SANTA" NEEDS A HOME

"GASTON" is reported to have gotten over his timidity.   Boarded at LADRA, co-owner Brischa says he looks quite related to a Rat Terrier.  Gaston´s ears betray a bit of Chihuahua DNA.  He´s an adorable small dog (neutered and vaccinated) and for adoption.  Contact:  bbrischa@hotmail.com

RAT TERRIER

HOMES NEEDED:  For the thousands of dogs and cats on the streets here and for dozens of healthy and beautiful dogs and cats at the Centro de Acopio, the city´s no-kill pound. Open Monday-Saturday from 8 AM-2 PM.  293-3690. The Acopio is now holding adoptions every Saturday from 11 AM-2 PM at Plaza Caracól (back end of building near McDonald´s entrance). Dogs are walked twice a week by volunteers organized by Friends of Puerto Vallarta Animals.

Very sweet, young grey and white male cat living on the street near my home.  I took him to the clinic for neutering and released him the next morning in front of an abandoned home where two other cats spend time.  If interested, please contact me.
