FANTASTIC TEAM!!

The World Cup has been a thrilling distraction from recent tragic and dangerous events in different parts of the world.   México, which has participated in every World Cup since 1994, always reaching round 16, had stumbled through qualifications.  Playing extremely well and with obvious joy,  TRI is led by the Miguel Herrera, the exuberant director who became a star because of his unbridled passion for his team and for the game. Sad to see the weeping players and crowd in the knock-out game against Holland.  TRI played one of the best teams in the world, and almost won.  A win would have given a huge emotional boost to a country with 60% poverty and an undeserved amount of bad press.

Also fantastic - the PEACEAnimals team, consisting of  director/ vet tech, Paulina Stettner and doctors Poli and Anthony.  Their work is intense, precise,  and it is superb.  Standing for at least five hours each surgery day in less than ideal spaces, they often have no time to take even a five-minute break.   Since the founding of of PEACEAnimals free mobile spay/neuter clinics, one year ago in June,   here are the results:

June 19, 2013-November 9-2013 - 20 clinics resulting in the sterilization of 1,886 cats and dogs
January 8, 2014-June 21, 2014 - 18 clinics resulting in the sterilization of 1,843
Total clinics in 12 months:  38

Total cats and dogs sterilized in our fist year of operation: 3,729
Average number of animals sterilized per clinic:  97
Approximate cost per clinic:  $1,700 USD
PLAYA GEMELAS BEACH WITH LOS ARCOS IN THE BACKGROUND

PEACEAnimals would like to increase the number of members on the board of directors. With more board members, we can reduce annual dues.   If you have an interest in helping reduce the number of unwanted births in the cat and dog population and can commit to one meeting (in person or conference call) and "giving or getting" $3,000 USD a year, please contact me.

A SWIM AT LAS GEMELAS BEACH ("TheTwins") WITH A WATERPROOF CAMERA
PARTY BOATS AT LAS ÁNIMAS ("The Spirits") BEACH
Pets for Life, the independent contractors PEACEAnimals employs, was able to secure their own free spay/neuter mobile clinics in several locations in the states of Nayarit and Oaxaca. Local governments and communities provided the funds for these clinics, which relieved PEACEAnimals of having to find funding for 48 surgery weeks a year.
EL CABALLO ("The Horse") BEACH

Dazzlingly beautiful beach breaks between rains - the water is clear, pale emerald green and 88 degrees.  Brown pelicans aren´t disturbed by a few nearby swimmers and voluminous, white pillowed clouds hover above the horizon.

Marina La Cruz de Huanacaxtle
LA CRUZ MARINA
La Cruz de Huanacaxtle is a fishing village on the Bay of Banderas with a very nice marina, several good restaurants and plenty of attractive condos and houses. Although it is located in the state of Nayarit, it is only a 30.minute drive from downtown Puerto Vallarta.  Because La Cruz is located on the Bay of Banderas, it is a PEACEAnimals clinic responsibility.

"GASTON" RESCUED AND NEEDS HOME
A little black and white male Terrier/Chihuahua mix that I had seen foraging for food in the bagged trash and garbage that are left at corners for collection.  A neighbor was able to catch him and put the dog in the car with me.  As we drove off, the dog looked uneasy, but then began gently licking my hand, either as a thank-you or a need for moisture or salt.   I took him to Dr. Peña´s clinic for a vet check and gave him the unlikely name of "Gaston."   The 1,040 cost for tests and vaccines was paid for by John Brooks.  Gaston, who is two years old,  walks nicely on a leash and is very pretty and sweet.  He is being boarded at LADRA and available for adoption.  Contact:  bbrischa@hotmail.com

NUEVA INFORMACIÓN DE LAS CLÍNICAS GRATIS EN ESPAÑOL EN NUESTRO WEBSITE - www.peaceanimals.org

CABALLO SUFRIENDO EN BUCERIAS:  Un correo recibido:

RAINS AND PITILLAL

Rain!   Heavy sheets of rain and crashing electrical storms at night and some drizzly days.  The jungle is green and glistening and tufts of grass are shooting up between the multi-colored cobblestones.  On a clear day, a cruise south along the gorgeous coastline, passing the malecón, the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, villas, beautiful beaches and the "pirate" ship.  After an hour, we anchored at a small cove surrounded by dark rocks and boulders, where we snorkeled
COLOMITOS BEACH
in transparent blue-green water,  surrounded by exotic fish.  Temperature of the water:  86 degrees.
THE "PIRATE" SHIP

FIRST YEAR ANNIVERSARY:   Thursday, June 19th, marked PEACEAnimals´first anniversary.   Troy Valens, co-owner of Sea Monkey, treated the team, star volunteers and board members that were in town to dinner on the beach.  Brischa and Ted Borchgrevink brought "Negro," a ten-year old Pit Bull that had been at the Acopio for a year .  He´s now waiting for a flight to his new home in Canada.  Paulina Stettner brought the beautiful male Belgian Shepherd she had found on the streets in colonia Ramblases.  The sad story is that the owner  left his two dogs locked up in his office, which he abandoned.  One of the dogs died of starvation, but the Belgian Shepherd somehow escaped.
FIRST ANNIVERSARY DINNER AT SEA MONKEY ON LOS MUERTO BEACH
He is now neutered, being treated for mange and for adoption.  At sunset, the sky had a greenish tinge.  Two hours later, we were running barefoot in an enormous downpour to our cars.  Numbers of sterilizations for the year will be published after I receive a report from Dr. Poli.  It has been a great year for the clinics.

Pitillal is a bustling municipality of Puerto Vallarta that seems like a separate town.  The main plaza, across from the pretty brick church, is almost completely devoid of trees,  and in the heat and humidity, devoid of people.
Per a passerby, the electronic gate to the the large underground garage at the plaza has been broken for months. On one of the sidewalks across from the plaza, two elderly women embroidered pillowcases and placemats for sale.  The clinic took place in the grass-covered courtyard of the delegación (government office where births are recorded, visas applied for, etc.) at the southeast corner of the plaza.
Even with several fans aimed at the vet team, volunteers and animals, it was very hot under the red Kiosko plastic tarp.

STERILIZATIONS AT PITILLAL CLINIC - June 18-21 - Male dogs - 11; Female dogs - 34; Male cats - 30; Female cats -49  TOTAL: 124

Plus pregnancies terminated for the following:  1 cat with 3 fetuses; 1dog with 3 fetuses; 1 dog with 4 fetuses

DONATIONS AT PITILLAL CLINIC: 2,210 pesos

The clinic in Pitillal was paid for with a generous grant from the Summerlee Foundation.

DONATIONS TO PEACEANIMALS CLINICS:  "The Gift That Gives More," a GreaterGood program, listed PEACEAnimals clinics as its recipient on the home page for three days.

On Friday, June 20th, 6% of the 180,200 clicks required to fund the sterilization of 53 cats and dogs had been counted.  This translates to 10,812 clicks for PEACEAnimals clinics.  By Monday, 63% of goal had been reached.   Waiting for final results from GreaterGood.

 ADOPTED:

"Kira," the large black and white dog found under a car in a parking lot.  She was suffering from TVT and had multiple tumors, including one in an eye.   She was treated successfully with approximately ten sessions of chemotherapy, paid for with a donation from John Brooks, who lives in Newfoundland.
KIRA WITH ANSELMO
Kira´s rescuer, who was fostering her, asked me to find a place for Kira for ten days while he went out of town.   Kira went to LADRA, the dog boarding and sanctuary built and belonging to Brisch and Ted Borchgrevink. After being a paid boarder for one month (her rescuer didn´t return calls or emails),  Anselmo de Anda Martinez, who works as a caretaker at LADRA, fell in love with her.  So did his German Shepherd, Loba, who often visits the sanctuary.  Dogs and humans are very happy with this adoption.

"Don Alfonso," a small black and white dog from the Centro de Acopio.
DON ALFONSO ADOPTED AT THE ACOPIO
RESCUED:
ESCAR AT DR. PEÑA´S CLINIC
"Escar," a male Pit Bull with a severe case of manage.  As Brischa and Ted Borchgrevink were leaving LADRA, a man with his dog flagged them down.  He said he didn´t have much money, but needed their help and would pay what he could to have his dog brought back to health.  Brischa and Ted put Escar in their car and took him to LADRA, where he will stay for at least a month.

"PICKLES" AT TIME OF RESCUE
"Pickles" was found by Brischa and Ted up in the hills with a nylon string around her neck.  Emaciated, dehydrated and sick, they nursed her back to health and although there were six offers of adoption, they said Pickles "brought too much joy to ever let her go."  Pickles is a wonderful mix of Shar-Pei, Xolo ("Mexican Hairless") and Pit Bull.  Lounging in the Borchgrevink´s pool, she looks like a happy hippo.
"PICKLES" NOW

LADRA has rescue puppies and dogs for adoption.  Please contact via FB.
